Differences

Nothing to compare yet

Paste text into both fields, or try the sample.

How to use

  1. Paste the original text on the left and the changed text on the right.
  2. The comparison updates as you type — choose split or unified view.
  3. Ignore whitespace or letter case if those differences don't matter to you.
  4. Copy the result as a unified diff to share it or apply it as a patch.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text sent to a server?

No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser, so you can safely compare private code or documents.

What does "ignore whitespace" do?

Lines that only differ in indentation, trailing spaces or the amount of spacing between words are treated as unchanged.

What is a unified diff?

It is the standard text format used by git and the diff command: removed lines start with -, added lines with +, and @@ headers show where each change is.

How large can the texts be?

Each side can be up to 20,000 lines or 500,000 characters, which covers most source files and documents.
